Sony and Google have signed a deal to distribute Google's Chrome web browser on new Sony computers. Google said that it is continuing to explore ways to make Chrome accessible to even more people, and that it is in the process of testing one such channel with Sony. A Sony spokesperson said "Since August this year, all Sony VAIO computers sold in Europe have had Google Chrome pre-installed as an additional browser option to Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Microsoft recently upgraded the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service website (MVLS) in order to improve the management of volume licenses and address cerain issues regarding privacy and piracy.

The new Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) is an online tool that makes it easy for you to manage Microsoft Volume Licensing program agreements, download licensed products, and access volume license keys—all in one place.

End User specific step-by-step instructions can be found on the Microsoft Customer Licensing Site and we highly recommend the VLSC Silverlight Demo to become familiar with the site.

Unfortunately, this upgrade has resulted in a number of issues for some end users and suppliers. Microsoft are aware that this has been inconvenient for those affected, and are trying to resolve these problems as quickly as possible.

As part of the Microsoft Software Assurance programme, which is a standard part of a School Agreement, included is a benefit called the Home Use Programme (HUP). This gives employees of the school the opportunity to buy Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 for less than £15. HUP is mainly designed for business users of Microsoft software, to increase employee satisfaction, employee retention, and training and productivity. It’s also been seen to reduce support costs. The licence allows employees to use the software as long as they work for the organisation, and as long as the organisation is covered by Software Assurance- i.e. keeps the agreement running.
